AFRICAN UNITY: A MATHEMATICAL EQUATION

Updated: Nov 29

FELLOW AFRICANS ON THE AFRICAN CONTINENT AND ABROAD, SALAAM, GREETINGS!  MINE IS A SIMPLE SOLEMN CALL ON ALL OF YOU TO SEEK TO JOIN THE PAN AFRICAN FEDERALIST MOVEMENT /PAFM AFTER READING AND REFLECTING ON THE TWO EXTRACTS BELOW  FROM TWO INSIGHTFUL SPEECHES MADE BY  TWO OF AFRICA’S GREATEST ADVOCATES OF AFRICAN UNITY:

“Only a united Africa functioning under a union government can forcefully mobilise the material and moral resources of our separate countries and apply them efficiently and energetically to bring a rapid change in the conditions of our people. Unite we must. Without necessarily sacrificing our sovereignties, big or small, we can here and now forge a political union based on defence, foreign affairs and diplomacy, and a common citizenship, an African currency, an African monetary zone, and an African central bank. We must unite in order to achieve the full liberation of our continent. We need a common defence system with African high command to ensure the stability and security of Africa.”

KWAME NKRUMAH SPEECH IN ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, ON 24 MAY 1963.

“If numbers were horses, Africa today would be riding high! Africa would be the strongest continent in the world, for it occupies more seats in the UN General Assembly than any other continent. Yet the reality is that ours is the poorest and weakest continent in the world. And our weakness is pathetic. Unity will not end our weakness, but until we unite, we cannot even begin to end that weakness.  So, this is my plea to the new generation of African leaders and African peoples: work for unity with the firm conviction that without unity, there is no future for Africa.”

JULIUS NYERERE SPEECH IN ACCRA, GHANA, ON 6 MARCH 1997.

ONE AFRICA, FREE AFRICA!

ONLY A UNITED AFRICA IS A FREE AFRICA!

ORGANIZE DON’T AGONIZE!

THE POWER IS OURS! ALUTA CONTINUA!

WELCOME

Greetings Family,

If numbers were strength, unity would be the multiplier.

Africa's collective potential is undeniable; like a vast equation, we possess all the variables needed for greatness. Yet, in the absence of true unity, our sum is diminished.

The United Nations may count our seats, but the world measures outcomes, not appearances. We cannot solve for prosperity while division subtracts our resources, fragments our strategies, and divides our power.

Unity is not a solution; it is the formula. A formula to turn our abundance into opportunity, our diversity into strength, and our collective voice into influence. But without solving for unity first, every other effort is just rearranging the same unequal fractions.

To the inheritors of Nyerere’s plea: let us begin with clarity and courage, for without unity as the base of our equation, Africa cannot solve for its future.

If numbers were strength, unity would be the multiplier:

  • Potential (P) = Resources (R) × People (N)

  • Actual Power (AP) = Potential (P) × Unity (U)

Without Unity (U), the formula collapses, because anything multiplied by zero results in zero.

Africa's resources and people are vast—our Potential (P) is unmatched. But Actual Power (AP) remains weak, because disunity reduces our potential to fragments.

The Formula for Africa’s Strength:

  • Unite our vision: Align behind shared goals.

  • Multiply our efforts: Combine strengths across borders.

  • Divide no more: Eliminate the divisions that weaken us.

Until U ≠ 0, Africa cannot solve for its future. Unity is not just a factor; it is the key that transforms Potential into Actual Power.

Nyerere’s wisdom reminds us: without unity, no amount of resources or people can add up to progress. With unity, the equation changes, and so does our future.

Warm regards,
